YOP: post 10

There hasn't been much progress in my YOP-knitting, and as the Chirstmas rush will set in this weekend, I thought I'd run through my list ans have a look at my progress.

Techniques
1. Learn to knit continental properly, so I'll be able to do two-handed stranded knitting;
pattern: Musica mitts (deadline Jan 2013)
-> Will knit these after Christmas, during the holidays.

2. Learn to knit entrelac. I've always found entrelac extremely beautiful and I think this year is the right time to learn how it works.
pattern: Entre deux saisons
-> Started these a few days ago and can't seem to stop working on them. They now look like this:

Charts
1. The 'I Heart You' chart
-> no progress

2. The 'Papyrus' charta
-> no progress

Items
1. a top
pattern: either 'Bella Paquita', 'Pioneer', or 'Arbor'
-> Completed during the Ravellenics

2. a cardigan: depending on yarn gauge: 'March Basic', 'Elbow Patch Cardigan', 'Cardigan in Alpaca and Glitter' or another 'Stanton'
->  Completed the 'Cable cardi'

3. Special socks
pattern: either the 'Double heelix' or the 'Skew' socks
-> no progress

4. a pair of fingerless gloves
pattern: 'Knucks'
-> no progress

Themes
1. something geeky
pattern: various possibilities: 'Atomic Blocks', 'Irrationally Constant Mittens', 'Pi socks' (or any other constant socks, for that matter), 'Doppler Effect Socks', 'Space Invaders Socks', ...
-> no progress

2. something stripey
pattern: 'Color Affection Shawl' , another 'More Than a Triangle Shawl' or a a 'Dream Stripes' shawl
-> Base for the shawl is complete, I need to design or find a suitable side-to-side knit border to complete it.

It seems that I have made quite some progress on the larger projects, like the top and jumper, but that the projects that involve more creativity like the chart projects haven't had much attention yet. I'm going to keep my list as it is until after the Christmas holidays, so I can see what I can accomplish during those two weeks, before removing any projects from my list or adding others.
I'll be going to the monthly knitting group tomorrow, where I would like to make a start on one of my Christmas projects: a Revontuli shawl for my grandmother, although I also really need to finish the socks I'm knitting for my mother as her birthday is approaching rapidly...

Year of projects

Inspired by various knitters whose blogs I read, I've decided to participate in the 'Year of Projects' Blog-a-long. I don't think I'll be able to post every week, but if I can get one post in every month I'll be happy... I'm planning to make my own YOP grafic in the next few days and use that in all the posts.
Update: the banner is now complete.

So, here goes. I've divided my list into a few categories:

Techniques
1. Learn to knit continental properly, so I'll be able to do two-handed stranded knitting;
pattern: Musica mitts (deadline Jan 2013)
2. Learn to knit entrelac. I've always found entrelac extremely beautiful and I think this year is the right time to learn how it works.
pattern: Entre deux saisons

Charts
1. The 'I Heart You' chart
2. The 'Papyrus' chart

Items
1. a top
pattern: either 'Bella Paquita', 'Pioneer', or 'Arbor'
2. a cardigan: depending on yarn gauge: 'March Basic', 'Elbow Patch Cardigan', 'Cardigan in Alpaca and Glitter' or another 'Stanton'
3. Special socks
pattern: either the 'Double heelix' or the 'Skew' socks
4. a pair of fingerless gloves
pattern: 'Knucks'

Themes
1. something geeky
pattern: various possibilities: 'Atomic Blocks', 'Irrationally Constant Mittens', 'Pi socks' (or any other constant socks, for that matter), 'Doppler Effect Socks', 'Space Invaders Socks', ...
2. something stripey
pattern: 'Color Affection Shawl' , another 'More Than a Triangle Shawl' or a a 'Dream Stripes' shawl

That makes a grand total of 10 things I hope to complete before June 30th 2013!

2012, here we go

I'm going to try making some knitting new year's resolutions. I have a tendency to forget them during the year so I can never check if they've been completed or not, so here goes:

1. Knit a pair (or more) of patterned socks.

2. Reduce my stash.
2a. Make something with the black and grey chunky yarn and the fuzzy yarn in the same colours. I think an idea is growing in my mind....
2b. Make something with the various types of green yarn that are in my stash.
photos of the offending yarn and a 'flash your stash' will follow shortly.

3. Post more frequently. I often find myself typing for half an hour because of a buildup of unshared projects.

4. Ask people for whom I've knitted stuff in pre-blog times to send me a photo of the item. And keep stalking them until they do.

5. Try not to have more than 3 WIP's going at once.
WIP nr. 1 will probably be a blanket, WIP nr. 2 will be a pair of socks, so there is room for one jumper/hat/shawl at a time.

6. A little more abstract: knit something that has 'the wow factor'

7. Knit something from the various pattern books and magazines I received this year.

8. Make another yarnbomb. Yarnbombing is supposed to make people smile, and there are enough people who need cheering up in this world.

9.Make something out of reclaimed yarn.

10.Keep spreading the word and the skills to people around me!

It's the weekend !

It's Saturday, witch means that today I had time to knit. YEAY ! For the result: cf. infra
Yesterday I went to the wool shop near me with my godmother to buy wool for a jumper for her. It's going to be this in red-brown-orange. So the knitting list at the moment is:
- cable hat
- black jumper (2 B finished)
- blue scarf (the same one as in the last post, because the first got sold straight away :) )
- red-brown-orange jumper

other things:
- sew blue hooddie
- crochet a few antimacassars

-) I've got enough to do for the moment! But luckily it'll soon be the holidays!

World record day

New world record for Belgium: the longest government formation in world history.
It's obvious they can't form a government, but what can you do in 249 days?
* knit 4 jumpers, 5 pairs of mittens, 5 cable hats and 4 normal hats, 4 normal scarves and 1 circular one.
* survive 2 sets of exams
* enjoy the summer- , autumn- , and Christmas holidays
* watch the last season of 'De Allerslimste Mens ter Wereld' znd the 5th season of House M.D. three and five times respectively.
* A lot of other things !

ps. I took the needles back. They smiled and shook their heads at me :)
